For Alba LA, GRT Architects captures the golden age of Hollywood supper clubs

Clubby, Cozy, Coastal

Alba LA is the second outpost of Cucina Alba, a coastal Italian restaurant in New York. For the second venue, the restaurateurs looked to the other coast of Los Angeles’s West Hollywood. GRT Architects, one of AN Interior’s Top 50 Architects and Designers of 2025 and the firm who also designed the first, popular locale, took up the first projects’ motif and translated them to appropriately fit the sequel. This time, the firm repurposed the same materials and striped, coastal themes but with a touch of old Hollywood supper clubs.

An unassuming arched doorway marks the entry to Alba in the same ways classic Los Angeles spots kept a low profile. The door leads to a barrel-vaulted corridor whose compactness gives the impression that a dark, windowless dining area lies beyond—but it’s a trick. GRT Architects created an element of surprise so that the transition opens to a courtyard with wood built-ins and plantings. Arched niches are finished with bright and buoyant murals by StudioPROBA. A yellow and white scalloped ceiling drips with aluminum chains that disguise the air vents, a nod to the parasol ceiling in the Manhattan flagship.

The courtyard is defined as two tented structures on either side with a bar at one end and private dining bungalow on the other.

In the uncovered areas, cobblestone pavers line the floors, fenced in by plaster walls, trellised to train climbing plants. A striped fabric roof adds a beachy touch while serving as protection in case of inclement weather.

Upstairs, the mood is clubbier and cozier. Windowless bars, smoky mirrors, and carpeted floors conjure discrete Hollywood glamor. The entire interior is finished with ivory leather upholstery, sandy terrazzo, and chrome-framed Cesca chairs, a feast of color and coastal chic.
