In New York’s Union Square, Mission Ceviche is a Peruvian restaurant specializing in biodiverse seafood dishes. New World Design Builders / K2 Studios translated this culinary concept into a wood-clad, marine-inspired interior. White oak wood flooring, large beams on the ceiling, and exposed brick archways create a sense of expansiveness in the restaurant. The rustic materials and elements are paired with creative details to capture the colorful spirit of the fine dining menu.

The space is divided into several areas: the main bar which greets guests, the dining room that surrounds the bar, the rear dining lounge lit around a cozy fireplace, and a sushi bar where fresh fish is displayed on ice and teak wood planks cladded vertically on the soffit.

Throughout the space is rhythmically punctuated by chandeliers made of rope that hang like a fishing net over the tables, while providing a vessel for column swags. The lighting is a cheeky allusion to the restaurant’s seafood specialities. More direct allusions come via a floor-to-ceiling 3D fish sculpture from artist Joel Amit who was flown in and commissioned for the work.

It’s one of many eye-catching pieces thoughtfully dotted around the space. Another case in point: the fireplace at the back of the interior features breeze blocks uniquely stacked to create a fireplace facade, which allows visibility of the traditional Peruvian striped pattern that lies behind it—a detail that weaves Mission Ceviche’s background and expertise.
