RUSE

For the last 10 years, RUSE has curated luxury consignment and contemporary goods in Montreal. In honor of the anniversary, the shop sought to refresh their Mile End space. Local design firm Studio Kiff delivered not only a stylish new interior for the boutique but also a design that intentionally reflects the shop’s own fashion: a blend of the past and present.

For the redesign of RUSE, Studio Kiff strips back the space while optimizing its impact. The neutral backdrop, now enveloped with soft blush walls, was then filled in with a balance of old and new elements. Exposed ceiling cornices were revealed and preserved, along with the original maple flooring, sanded down to reveal its natural tone.

The charm of the building is contrasted with contemporary furnishings: Aluminum clothing racks lend a sleek edge, table by Justin Cristofaro contributes clean lines, and a pouf by Clara Jorisch adds a sculptural quality. Toward the rear, a marble counter blends both new charm and classic luxury to the space.

Everything is arranged with careful attention making the space feel more expansive. Slender racks flow toward the back of the space, elongating the room’s length alongside Cristofaro’s display table, also positioned to point toward the rear. Long, flowing curtains and tall mirrors create zones and functionality while contributing to the perception of space.

The cherry on top: Built-in shelving displays more goods at the back of the store, integrating LED lighting behind the counter. The detail is yet another meeting of contemporary styles within the older elements of the shop, a renovation that pays homage to its previous outpost while looking forward to its future.
